Our Parisian Winter Adventure
Paris is often a dream destination for first-time travelers, brimming with iconic attractions and timeless charm. But here’s the truth: Paris is a big city, and trying to see it all in one trip is nearly impossible.
When I first visited Paris, someone gave me advice I stubbornly ignored: “Don’t rush. Enjoy the city. You’ll likely come back.” Back then, I crammed every attraction into my itinerary, rushing from one landmark to the next. Funny enough, they were right—I returned eight years later, and now, thanks to my sister living in the south of France, Paris feels like a second home.
Each time I visit, I fall in love with Paris all over again. The city is a blend of grandeur and history, where the past is beautifully preserved in its architecture and cobblestone streets. While my French brother-in-law (who grew up in a small town) finds Paris overwhelming, I adore its vibrancy. It’s a city where you can sip coffee at a quaint café, people-watch for hours, and feel the pulse of its rich history and culture.
My latest trip to Paris was in winter, a season that paints the city with a unique charm. Unlike previous visits—in spring with friends and summer with my kids—this time, we decided to stay near the Eiffel Tower. We booked a hotel room with a view so we could watch the tower sparkle every night, a truly magical sight.
While summer visitors wait until late evening for the tower’s lights to twinkle, winter offers the advantage of earlier sunsets. We avoided the hassle of keeping cranky kids up late and instead enjoyed the glittering Eiffel Tower from the warmth of our room.
If you want a similar experience, here are some excellent hotels offering Eiffel Tower views:

Exploring Paris: A Relaxed Winter Itinerary
This trip was more laid-back since Paris was our last stop before heading home. Instead of packing in a hectic schedule, we focused on a few must-see sights and experiences:
Tour Eiffel (Eiffel Tower)
No visit to Paris is complete without seeing its iconic landmark. Winter offers a unique perspective, with shorter lines and earlier evening light shows. The tower sparkles every hour after sunset, casting a magical glow over the city.
Pro Tip: Book tickets in advance to access the tower’s levels:
- First Floor: Features a museum, restaurant, and glass floor for stunning views.
- Second Floor: Offers panoramic vistas and a cozy dining experience at Le 58 Tour Eiffel.
- Third Floor: The observation deck is perfect for breathtaking photos.
Want the perfect Eiffel Tower shot? Check out these top spots:
- Trocadéro Gardens: The classic viewpoint (though partially covered for Olympic preparations when we came).
- Rue Saint-Dominique: A charming street with cafés and the tower in the background.
- Champ de Mars (Eiffel Tower Park). ideal for relaxed, more intimate photos with the tower looming overhead. In the summer you can lie on the grass and have a picnic after finding a perfect angle for the photo shoot.

- Pont Alexandre III: Capture the tower framed by the ornate bridge.

- Rue de l’Université. This quiet street offers a classic Parisian scene, with the Eiffel Tower appearing at the end of the street. The buildings on either side give the photo a cozy, neighborhood feel.

Air and Space Museum
One highlight of our trip was visiting the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace at Le Bourget Airport. For my son, Fabio, this was a dream come true. With over 150 aircraft and space exploration exhibits, he spent the entire day running from room to room, snapping photos, and marveling at everything from historic planes to Concorde prototypes.

Details:
- Open daily except Mondays.
- Admission: €16 (includes access to special exhibits like the Concorde and WWII planes).
For aviation enthusiasts or curious minds, this museum is a must-visit.
Shopping on the Champs-Élysées
Our final day was dedicated to shopping, and it wasn’t nearly enough time! The Avenue des Champs-Élysées offers everything—from luxury boutiques to flagship stores and the iconic Galeries Lafayette. It’s a shopper’s paradise, perfect for ticking off gift lists and indulging in a little Parisian style.

A Few Tips for First-Time Visitors
- Take It Slow: Paris isn’t going anywhere. Prioritize a few key attractions and leave room to wander.
- Stay Near the Eiffel Tower: Winter makes it easier to enjoy the lights without staying out late.
- Choose Your Season: Paris transforms with each season—spring blooms, summer energy, and winter’s cozy glow all offer something special.
Our three-day winter adventure was the perfect way to end the holiday season. Paris never fails to enchant, and each visit reveals something new to love. Whether it’s your first trip or your fifth, Paris invites you to slow down, savor its charm, and leave a piece of your heart behind.
Until next time, au revoir, Paris!
