Lee Jae Wook’s First Asia Fan Meeting in Jakarta

An evening of serenades, shy smiles, and 1,000 screaming fangirls (including me)

From his debut as Marco Han in Memories of the Alhambra (2018–2019), Lee Jae-wook quickly built an impressive résumé.

He gained attention in Search: WWW, followed by his big-screen debut in The Battle of Jangsari, and memorable roles in Extraordinary You and When the Weather Is Fine.

His first lead role came in Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol, but it was as Jang Uk in Alchemy of Souls and its sequel Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow that truly catapulted him into Hallyu stardom.

Six years into his career, multiple nominations and awards later — not bad for someone who debuted in 2018. He was even selected as one of the best actors of 2022 by South Korean industry professionals.

So when he announced his first Asia fan meeting tour — Seoul, Tokyo, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Jakarta, and Manila — you know I was ready.

When I First Noticed Him

I first noticed Jae Wook in Search: WWW as Seol Ji Hwan.

Honestly? His chemistry with Lee Da-hee was more compelling than the main couple.

But Alchemy of Souls was where he completely owned the screen. The transformation of Jang Uk — from mischievous, troubled boy to powerful mage — sealed it for me.

And now here I was, seeing him in real life.

What Is a Fan Meeting?

People often ask me this — especially friends who aren’t into K-drama or K-pop.

A fan meeting isn’t a concert. It’s more intimate and interactive. Artists usually hold them:

  • To celebrate milestones
  • For debut anniversaries
  • For birthdays
  • Or when their career reaches a new peak (like Jae Wook)

It’s a chance to see your idol up close, hear them speak, sing, play games, and interact directly with fans.

If you’re ever planning a trip to Korea, check if there’s a fan meeting happening. It’s such a unique cultural experience.

How to Find Fan Meeting Schedules in Jakarta

Since post-Covid reopening, Jakarta weekends have been packed with concerts and fan meetings.

Promoters to follow:

  • Mecima Pro
  • IME Entertainment
  • Dyandra Global Edutainment
  • Lumina Entertainment

Follow them on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok — or check Konser.id for updates.

The Mecima Membership Drama

Jae Wook’s Jakarta stop was arranged by Mecima. The moment they announced it, I registered for Mecima membership.
Unlike other promoters, Mecima operates a membership system:

  • Early access ticket link
  • Priority seating (front rows for VIP packages)
  • Exclusive fan benefits (group photo, signed posters, etc.)

But registering? A drama in itself.

The process is manual. Slow email responses. Sometimes no response. You have to follow up.

Thankfully, I got my membership approved just in time.

Ticket purchasing is another battlefield. Internet speed + fast fingers = survival.

Before the Fan Meeting

The show started at 6:30pm. Doors opened at 1pm.

We arrived at 2pm because:

  1. We wanted photos at the photo zone.
  2. We didn’t want to rush the wristband exchange.

MCP Package benefits included:

  • Signed poster
  • Lanyard
  • Photo pass
  • (And later — surprise photocard!)

We even prepared a small gift and handwritten note for Jae Wook and dropped it into the Gift Box. Not all artists accept gifts due to logistics, so we were happy Mecima allowed it.

The Fan Culture

In Korea, fans often give freebies during events. Indonesian fanbase Izzimo organized blue flowers for the photo group session — a beautiful coordinated moment. The photo zone is always a highlight. Posters. Life-sized standees. Endless photos.

And yes — standing next to his life-size standee made me realize just how tall he is.
187 cm.
I looked tiny.

The Photo Group Session

This was our first time getting a photo group benefit. We were grouped into 19 people. The session lasted maybe 30 seconds. It’s pure luck whether you stand next to him.

We weren’t that lucky.
But hey — same frame counts.

What Happens in a Fan Meeting?

Part 1: Serenade & Shy Reactions

Opening Song

He opened by singing Paul Kim’s “Every Day, Every Moment.”

Hearing him sing live? Magical.

The Q&A session (hosted by Indra Herlambang) included hilariously awkward questions like:

  • “Would you prefer your girlfriend to have 30 male friends or one unforgettable ex?”
  • “Someone wiping your girlfriend’s lips or your girlfriend wiping someone else’s?”

Watching Jae Wook’s reactions — the shy smiles, confused laughter — was pure entertainment.

We also watched top fan-selected scenes from Alchemy of Souls.

When his kissing scene with Go Yoon Jung appeared on the big screen…
He was visibly embarrassed.
The entire hall screamed.

Part 2: The Surprise Walk

Suddenly, he appeared from the back of the hall.
Walking through the audience.
Everyone’s heart stopped.

We played interactive quizzes. Five winners received special prizes. There were also lottery draws — signed polaroids, soundtrack albums, even his Supreme cap.

Watching him shake the prize box was oddly adorable.

He ended with Hyukoh’s “Tomboy.”

Mid-song, Indonesian fans surprised him with a fan chant and a special tribute video. You could see how touched he was.
That moment felt warm. Genuine.

The Goodbye

After his farewell speech (with promises to return), he walked across the stage so everyone could take photos.

Then came the Hi-Bye session.

We lined up and passed him one by one as he stood near the exit, waving.

It was the last chance for eye contact.

And yes — I smiled like a teenager.

So… Was It Worth It?

A big YES.

If you can, aim for front-row seats for maximum interaction.

I went home with:

  • A huge smile
  • Thousands of photos and videos
  • And a core memory unlocked

Jae Wook wrapped up his Asia tour in Manila and soon after appeared in Death’s Game.

And if you’re a fellow Jae Wook fangirl like me…

I hope you enjoyed reliving this moment with me 😉
