The Mall Firenze: Prada, Gucci, and My Wallet Crying 💸👜

If Tuscany is about vineyards, rolling hills, and gelato… then The Mall Designer Outlet in Firenze is about one thing: luxury bargains. Located in the little town of Leccio, just 35 km from Florence, this open-air outlet is basically Disneyland for shopaholics (minus Mickey, plus more Gucci).

We’re talking 40+ designer stores—Gucci, Prada, Burberry, Alexander McQueen, Valentino, Versace, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, and pretty much every Italian label you’ve ever seen strut down a runway. Some brands even have their own mini-palaces here—Prada, Gucci, and Moncler take up entire buildings like fashion royalty. Let’s just say, if bags could talk, they’d all be whispering, “Take me home.”

And yes, I was elated. Possibly too elated.

Bigger Than Bicester, Darling ✨

I’ve been to Bicester Village in the UK, but The Mall Firenze? It’s on another level. It’s so spread out that you could honestly use a car to hop between stores (imagine driving from Prada to Gucci—now that’s my kind of commute). If you’ve got all day—and, you know, unlimited funds—you could happily lose yourself here.

But if your time (or budget) is limited, you need a game plan. My recommendation: go straight for the Italian designer powerhouses—Prada, Gucci, Ferragamo, Tod’s, Armani, Valentino, Versace, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana—and leave “maybe later” brands for, well, maybe never.

More Than Just Shopping 🥂

Besides maxing out your credit card, The Mall also offers:

  • Tax-free shopping (because nothing says “holiday souvenir” like VAT refunds).
  • A restaurant & café to recharge between shopping sprints.
  • Car rental service (you might need one just to carry the shopping bags).
  • Pretty Tuscan vibes with landscaped gardens, fountains, and architecture that tries to blend in with the countryside (though let’s be real, Prada never blends).

They even host fashion shows, art exhibits, and live music. It’s like they thought: How do we make people stay even longer? Answer: wine, music, and more handbags.

Getting There 🚗🚌🚕

  • By Car: 30 minutes from Florence. Take the A1 highway towards Rome, exit at Incisa, and follow the signs. Easy.
  • By Shuttle Bus: Leaves Florence’s Santa Maria Novella station multiple times a day. Book online or buy tickets on the spot.
  • By Taxi: Around 30 minutes, but your fare depends on traffic and your driver’s mood.
  • By Train + Bus: Train to Figline Valdarno, then hop on a bus straight to the mall entrance. Longer, but doable.

The easiest way? Shuttle bus or car.

Our Trip

By day 3 in Tuscany, Hubby had rejoined us after his whirlwind Jakarta detour. We reunited at Florence station (think: movie-scene family hug moment), grabbed our rental car, and drove straight to The Mall. Because what better way to celebrate being together again than with discounted Gucci and a side of retail therapy?

Our last tip: Conquering The Mall Firenze Like a Pro

👟 1. Wear comfy shoes.
Those Prada heels look tempting, but save them for after. You’ll be walking—a lot.

👜 2. Set a budget… then double it.
Because somehow “just browsing” turns into “oops, I own a new Gucci bag.”

📍 3. Have a store game plan.
This place is huge. Decide which brands are non-negotiable (Prada, Gucci, Ferragamo) and hit them first before wallet fatigue sets in.

💧 4. Hydrate & snack.
Shopping is basically a sport. Bring water, grab snacks at Coop, or refuel at the café before round two.

🛒 5. Use tax-free shopping.
Fill out the forms, claim your refund. More euros for gelato later. The Mall has a VAT refund lounge, open until 7.30pm. However if you are leaving Italy by train to Switzerland and flying home from Switzerland you can not get your refund from that lounge as you need to submit your form at the Italy border.

If your next journey is Switzerland, be aware that since it is not part of EU you cannot get a custom stamp there for purchases in Italy. If you are going to Swiss by train, get the stamp in either (1) Chiassi or (2) Domodossola.

🎭 6. Don’t get FOMO.
You cannot possibly see everything (unless you live here). Accept it, focus on your favorites, and leave some brands for “next time.”

🚌 7. Transport wisely.
Shuttle bus = stress-free. Car = freedom (and extra trunk space for shopping bags). Taxi = pricey but convenient if you’re weighed down with loot.

😅 8. Manage expectations.
Discounted doesn’t mean dirt cheap. It’s still designer, just a little kinder on the credit card.
