Goa Hawang, Mangrove and Ohoidertawun Beach

Day 1 in Kei Kecil Island

We hit the bed as soon as we got into our guesthouse and to be able to stretch our body in a real bed is a luxury already. After catching up on sleep, hunger kicked in. We asked Ibu Puji, the owner if she could cook some food for us. She said she can make us fried rice and fried noodle with egg. We imediately nod as these was comfort food for our tummy.

After brunch or was it lunch? We checked out the beach in front of our guesthouse and found that it was currently on low tide and there was nothing we could do on the beach.

We remembered our driver offered to drive us around whenever we were ready. So we called him and took up his offer.

The beach at low tide from 5pm to 10am. The low tide can go up till 2km stretch

Goa Hawang

Goa Hawang is a stalactic cave with a fresh water pool in the bottom. Goa Hawang location is not far from Ohoidertawun. From the car park we only needed to walk a few hundred meters and descent down the stairs.

We came in the aftermoon which is the best time to come due to tje lighting. Kei island is still raw and underdeveloped so there was no facility such as public toilet or changing room at Goa Hawang.

We were already prepared and wore our swimming suit inside our clothes. We quickly got to our swimming suit and jumped to the water.

After we finish taking lots of pictures we heard the sound of crowds. Apparently locals especially school children also visit the cave to swim in the afternoon.

We quickly left the place before it got crowded and drove to Mangrove place.

Mangrove Place

We didn’t take pictures of the mangrove because the lighting was not good and we found the cute colourful café made a better background picture.

Ohoidertawun Beach

This is the name of the beach in front of our guesthouse. When we went back, we saw it was already in high tide and the beach has turned into a stunning giant turquoise pool,

Yay! I read online that Ohoidertawun beach is not swimmable. That is not true at all! Obviously we can not swim during low tide because it can stretch until 2km. But in the late afternoon the sea water is back and the beach is gorgeous and completely swimmable.

We didn’t do much on our first day. We were tired from the delay and the long flight. It was nice to be able to relax in the afternoon: swimming and lazying in front of the beach. This is what a beach holiday should be ❤️
